Weekend Plans With IMG Exec VP Tim Pernetti

By Paul Sanford

IMG Media & Events Exec VP TIM PERNETTI this weekend will be jet-setting around the world, as he travels to Dubai for a meeting with the owners of SOLE DXB, a regional lifestyle platform. SOLE DXB hosts an event each year in the Dubai Design District, and IMG is exploring collaborations with them because, as Pernetti said, "Fifty-percent of my time is looking for new opportunities." From Dubai, Pernetti will travel to L.A. for a Sneaker Con event, which is a new partnership for IMG. Pernetti put away his passport and took some time to speak with THE DAILY about his responsibilities at IMG and how he enjoys spending time with his family.

I'LL BRING THE ORANGE SLICES: Our weekends revolve around the kids' schedules. With one in college it's not as challenging, but our weekends typically involve going to see one of the kids compete in sports. When I have time to actually not work, my wife and I try to make a point to have at least one date night. We try to find new spots to eat in and around North Jersey. I should read more than I do. I'm a sucker for JAMES PATTERSON; there's something about him that always just pulled me in. But on the weekends, my wife and I love to binge-watch "SOPRANOS," "BREAKING BAD" and "SUCCESSION."

TIM'S TIME: My wife is really the athlete in the family, but we do like to work out together when we can, and on the weekends, that's always a staple of what we're doing. I come from a big Italian family where I was the middle child and always in trouble, so I was forced to sit in the kitchen, and in the process I learned how to cook. The go-to dish when you're from a family like I am is making a huge pot of Bolognese, sausage, meatballs and pasta. But the menu varies. The grill is my favorite kitchen thing going. I'll stand out and grill in the snow if I have to.

Pernetti said he now has a "to-do" list when he travels the world with his familyTIM PERNETTI

BUCKET LIST: I love to play golf, and my two sons have started to play in the last two years, which makes it even easier to get out and play. I have a "to-do" list now that I'm traveling more of the world. When you travel on business, you take for granted a lot of where you're going. When I was in France this summer, I realized I have to learn how to speak French and maybe some other languages. When I was a kid, I played the violin and piano and saxophone. Now, I'm at the point where I want to teach myself to play the guitar, and I'm in the process of trying to do that.

SPORTS VIEWING: Sunday, I'm always watching football, whether it's on the couch after we work out or the game's on while we're stirring a pot of meatballs. Otherwise, there's just so little time. If I have the choice to sit down and watch the Sunday night game or finish a show my wife and I are binging, we'll finish the show.

PEOPLE PERSON: When I'm away traveling, it's always about getting a workout, and I like to get to know people and develop new relationships. I always like to leave a trip with a new relationship that I didn't have when I went on the trip. When I'm home, I try to max my time out on Sunday with family stuff because there's so little time. But I will spend 15-20 minutes sometime in the evening just taking a peek at my calendar for the week. I'll make a short list of things I need to get accomplished during that week.
