League of Legends players vote to walk out

By Hunter Cooke

League of Legends Championship Series players have voted “overwhelmingly” in favor of walking out of the Summer Split in protest of Riot Games’ decision to remove a mandate for teams to have a farm league roster. Previously, LCSPA executive director Phillip Aram noted that if 26 of the 50 players voted to walk out, “the league isn’t running.”

The walkout is one of the first major instances of denying labor in one of North America’s largest franchised leagues. Aram has previously described the move to remove the mandate as a Band-Aid solution for teams that are struggling financially in the league.
